Road Code Free Classified FAQs

Q. What is The Road Code?
A. TheRoadCode.com is a FREE online listing and classified site with a special feature that sets us apart from all other classified sites…”Road Codes”.

Q. What is a "Road Code"?
A. A Road Code is a unique, 4 – 6 character alpha numeric code that is assigned to every classified listing on our website. When you create and post an ad on TheRoadCode.com, your ad will be assigned its own unique Road Code.

Q. What CAN and CAN'T be listed on The Road Code?
A. You can list almost anything, but we don't allow the promotion or listing of the following -
  • "Spam" listings.
  • Duplicate listings for the same item, message, or service.
  • Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) businesses, "home based" businesses, or get rich quick type sites/businesses. This includes any products or services offered by MLM type businesses or their associates.
  • 3rd party listings / listings created by posting agents.

  • Drugs or drug paraphernalia (syringes, bongs, rolling papers, etc...)
The following classified listings are also prohibited (sorry to be party poopers, but this is what our attorneys advised)

For more information read our Legal Stuff page.

Q. Can businesses put listings on The Road Code?
A. Businesses may create a listing in the Businesses & Services category to promote the business.

Businesses can create listings for items and place them in other categories ONLY if they are unique, individual items.

For example - A real estate company may create listings for each property they are selling since those are unique or an art dealer may create listings for each unique painting they are selling.

Businesses MAY NOT create individual listings for regular items in their general inventory.

For example – A hardware store can’t create a listing for each different type of screw and washer they stock.

A. Paid upgrades last for 90 days from time of purchase.
  • If you delete your listing or it expires before 90 days, the upgrades expire, too.

Q. How do I display my Road Code?
A. Any way you like! When you create a Road Code, you have the ability to download a FREE PDF file that has YOUR unique Road Code and our eye catching logo & colors.

The files are currently available in 3 sizes
:
  • 8.5" H x 11" W (perfect for a home printer),
  • 12" H x 18" W (good for vehicles, yard, and general display)

Q. PDF sign files - Where do I find mine?
A. The .pdf sign files containing your listing's unique Road Code are located toward the bottom of your listing. Simply click on the thumbnail picture of the sign file you wish to download.
(You must be logged in to your account to see the .pdf sign files. )

Q. Is there a limit to the amount of classified listings you can create?
A. No. You can create as many Road Code listings as you like. However, you may not create more than one listing for the same item, service, website, etc. (Example: If you are selling one car, you may only create one listing. If you're selling five different cars, you may create a listing for each one and each one will receive its own unique Road Code.)

Q. How is a Road Code Created?
A. A Road Code is created by taking the first three letters or numbers from the Title, Address, or Make/Model fields in each relevant category. The last character is randomly generated. For example...If you inputted Elm Street in the address field of the Real Estate Category, your code could be ELM7. We do this to give the codes a sense of familiarity.

Q. What if I don’t like the Road Code that was generated for my classified listing?
A. Should our system's filter inadvertently allow an offensive or inappropriate Code to be generated, contact us at ChangeRoadCode@theroadcode.com and we can alter the code to something harmless so there won't be a need to re-create your Road Code listing.

Q. I created a Road Code listing and it disappeared. What happened?
A. If your classified listing is no longer visible in the "Manage Your Road Codes" page and you did not delete it yourself, there could be several reasons:
  • the listing expired
  • the listing content duplicated one of your already existing listings and was deleted by our system
  • it was flagged as spam or a scam by our community and deleted
  • it was deemed in violation of our Terms Of Use and deleted

Q. What does the Smartphone App do?
A. Our initial release version allows you to look up any Road Code and view all its listing's details including photos, video and contact information. You also have the ability to save all The Road Codes that you searched for previously for future reference. Visit www.roadcodeapp.com for more info and screenshots.

Q. I don’t see a category for what I want to promote...what do I do?
A. Use the "Other" sub-category. Each category (Real Estate, Vehicles, & General) has specific sub-categories. There is also an "other" sub-category for the 3 main categories. This is where listings that don't fit into the specific sub-categories can go. We will add additional specific sub-categories categories if we find user demand for them to be strong enough, so let us hear from you!

Q. I already have a website. Can I still use The Road Code and get a code?
A. Absolutely! This is one of our coolest features that we’re really proud of. Just choose our ‘Website Linking” category, enter a title, enter your URL link and BAM!!! In just three steps, you created a Road Code shortcut to the awesome website that you worked hard to create. Now display your Road Code and give people a shortcut to your site instead of punching in those long website addresses.

Q. Oops... I made a mistake when I created my classified listing. Now what?!
A. No problem just log into your account, click “My Listings” and edit the content or completely delete the listing.

Q. Is your site secure?
A. Yes! Our site incorporates a 256 BIT SSL certificate and site security is a major priority of ours.

Q. I saw a classified listing that looks like a scam. How do I report it?
A. If you see a listing that may be a scam, contains something illegal that shouldn’t be posted, or is obvious spamming you can report it by clicking the red “Flag as Spam” link on the top, right-hand side of the listing.

You can also email us at reportabuse@theroadcode.com.

We take spam and fraud very seriously and appreciate your help in fighting it.

Q. So Road Codes are similar to those strange QR Codes I’ve been seeing right?
A. Only in the sense that they both represent information. That’s where the similarity ends. QR codes are an image that looks like a square of squiggles. They can be hard to use and not always accurate. You also need an existing website or web page in order to create one.

Road Codes are alpha-numeric. You can easily remember them. They have a sense of familiarity and personality that QR codes don’t. You don’t have to focus and take a picture of them like QR codes require you to do. Unlike QR codes, Road Codes can be viewed on the web in case you don’t have a smart phone.

The Road Code provides you not only with a unique code to use, but the complete system to list and promote your business, product, service, information, existing website, etc...completely for FREE!

Q. Your site is perfect for me or my business to advertise on….How do I contact you?
A. Please email us at advertising@theroadcode.com or give us a call @ 201-252-ROAD (7623). We like to work late so don’t be shy.
